The musicians of the Fauré Quartett—which comprises violin, viola, cello, and piano—are pioneers in many ways. After meeting as students in Karlsruhe, Germany, in 1995, they quickly realized that this combination of instruments offered opportunities to explore a treasure trove of musical works. Recognized for their visionary collaborations and their compelling interpretations of compositions from core classical chamber music standards to pop songs, the Fauré is widely regarded as one of today’s top chamber ensembles. Of their performance, the Toronto Star wrote, “The communication between the four performers was as beautiful to watch as their music was satisfying to hear. This quartet thinks and breathes as one, focused on a singular, clear vision for their music making.” The ensemble’s Krannert Center program represents a beautiful range of expression, including Mussorgsky’s engaging and renowned musical depiction of 10 paintings, originally written for solo piano.
