Government Information for History 498: Looking for Government Information

The CGP is the finding tool for federal publications that includes descriptive information for historical and current publications as well as direct links to the full document, when available. It is also a great tool to identify SuDoc numbers which is the highly used classification system for federal resources and publications.

HathiTrust is a shared digital repository, incorporating digitized content from some of the largest research libraries in the United States. It's U.S. Federal Documents Program provides open access to over 1 million documents produced by the federal government.

Provides users with access to a comprehensive collection of historic and current congressional information. Includes full text of congressional publications, finding aids, a bill tracking service, public laws and other research materials. The database is an effective source for general research in many academic disciplines, in addition to research related to specific legislative proposals and laws. Researchers can access information about Congress, including member biographical and committee assignment information, voting records, and financial data.

a. The Yearbook of the United Nation stands as the authoritative reference work on the activities and concerns of the Organization. This is a great resources for more information about a document and the context in which it was created.

a. The Index to Proceedings is an annual bibliographic guide to the proceedings and documentation of the major organs. If you want to find all documents related to an agenda item in a given year or session, find the meeting number and symbol for a meeting held on a certain date, or find statements prior to 1983, this is the resources that you want to look at.

The Canadiana collection contains digitized historical publications, including monographs, serials, and government publications. The collection is largely composed of materials published prior to 1921.
