Planet: Planet Resources & Training

Using Planet imagery within Google Earth Engine and setting up a GCP

For use of Planet imagery within Google Earth Engine (GEE), users have to set up a Google Cloud Project (GCP) to which image data from Planet will be written. However, when you try to do this with your address, you may receive an error message saying “GCP service has been disabled. Please contact your administrator to restore service in G Suite Admin console”.

Technical Services advise that to set up a GCP with your illinois email, you need to request a Google Cloud Project with the university using the form:

On this web form, you will also need to include a CFOP from your business office for rebilling any charges that occur within the Google Cloud project. This is required since Tech Services do not have a way to enforce ONLY using the free tiers/offerings in GCP (that Planet data uses), so a payment mechanism is required in case you decide to go beyond that.
