Remote Meeting Applications

This instruction guide is designed to explain the various benefits and features of each software so that you can make an informed decision as to which would be most useful and beneficial to your needs.

Google Products

Google offers several group video conferencing software. They are Google Hangouts, Google Meets, and the newest offering is Google Duo.

Google Hangouts

Google Duo

  • Comparable to Apple’s FaceTime.
  • Free
  • If you have an Android system, it is installed automatically. Otherwise, it can be downloaded from The Google Play Store or accessed from duo.google.com.
  • Appropriate for meetings of up to 12 people.
  • Can make video calls, phone calls, and leave messages.
  • Has a Knock feature which provides a video of the person who is attempting to call you.

Google Meets

  • Most appropriate for individuals who would like a platform similar to Zoom.
  • You can present, record a session, schedule meetings, and provide audio captioning.
  • Free version allows for one hour (60 minutes) of videoconferencing. If you require more time for your meeting, the pay scale ranges from $6-$25 dollars per month, although the G-Suite Essentials is $10 dollars per month (allows for 150 Google Meets participants). Google Meets can be accessed from the web via meets.google.com.
  • Meets prevents unauthorized individuals by restricting guests to joining via the Meet invite or by receiving approval from the host.
  • Meets also provides encryption of files.
