How to Use the IFSI Library: Information Literacy for Firefighters

This Libguide is for the Firefighters that use the Illinois Fire Service Institute Library Catalog and materials who may need guidance on how to locate and manage resources for classes and research.

Your IFSI Library Account

This is how the home screen of your library account will look. You can locate your reading history, currently checked out materials, and due dates. Your library account can be created for you by librarians by reaching out to them in person, by phone, or by email. All the information we need is your name, address, contact information, and public library card number if you have one. A public library card is important because it allows us to send materials to you through your local Illinois public library via the Illinois State Library interlibrary loan system.

Books at the IFSI Library

These books represent some of our most popular items. All are available to be checked out from the IFSI Library or sent to your local public library (within Illinois) through interlibrary loan.

Periodicals Available to Use in the Library

We have full runs of these and many other periodicals relevant to the fire service. Periodicals cannot be checked out, but you can use them within the library.

DVDs at the IFSI Library

We have a complete set of Firefighter I & II training DVDs from Action Training Systems. These, and many other DVDs, are available to be checked out from the IFSI Library or sent to your local public library (within Illinois) through interlibrary loan.
