UI CVM Course Reserves

Information for students to help them find reserved resources for their courses, and to provide information to instructors about placing items on reserve

Welcome!

Welcome to the Veterinary Medicine Library Course Reserves LibGuide!

What are Course Reserves?  They are materials that, at the request of course instructors, are made freely available in the library to students Materials may include textbooks, other helpful books, class notes, and more.

Permanent Reserves are on reserve all year long.

Temporary Reserves are only on reserve for a semester and typically are for a specific course.  After the semester is over, they are taken off reserve, and are available for regular circulation.

Checking Out Reserves at the Vet Med Library

The course reserves at Vet Med are on the first set of shelves, before the regular collection starts. They are organized by call number. Please ask a library worker (either Erin or Joella) for the materials for your course. It helps if you have the call number or title of the reserve resource you're looking for, but library staff can otherwise help you find it if you know the course number and instructor's name.

Note: most UIUC libraries have reserves for some courses, so your professor may have put the reserve items for your class at any one of several libraries, not just the Vet Med Library.

Class notes for VM607, VM 612-616 and VCM 624 are available all year long.

Items are allowed to leave the library, just be sure to return the reserve materials by the time the given loan period is up!

Reserve Borrowing Periods

Unlike other books within the library holdings, course reserves are subject to different borrowing periods.

Standard check-out period for reserves is two hours. Reserve resources may be renewed if no one else is waiting. Reserves can be checked out overnight, and due back the beginning of the next business day.  During university breaks, when materials are not in demand, extended borrowing periods may be issued at the discretion of library staff.

Unlike other reserves, Board Exams, AED/CPR and Safety Issue books have a check-out period of 1 week.

PLEASE REMEMBER - Overdue fines accumulate at a rate of:

  • $5 per hour (for 2 hour reserves)
  • $5 per day (for all other reserves)

To prevent overdue fines from accruing, return all Vet Med Library Reserves directly to the inside Circulation Desk book drop only. Please don't return books in the outside book drop to ensure a timely discharge.
