Introduction to Statistical Data
This guide provides links to general sources for statistical research as well as resources for federal, state and international statistics.
Online resources are often the most effective place to search for statistical information, as they provide the most current statistics available and are updated more frequently than print resources, though the Law Library does own several current print statistical resources in its Reference collection. Some good online places to start general statistical research are listed below.
General Statistical Resources
- ProQuest StatisticalProvides access to statistics produced by federal agencies, states, and intergovernmental organizations.
- UIUC Government Documents Library Statistical Resources GuideExtensive list of links to statistical resources for various topics, including population and demographics, social science, health, education, business and science statistics.
- UIUC Education Library Statistical Resources for the Social SciencesAlso a great resource for statistical information focusing on education or other social sciences. This guide includes both general statistical resources as well as social science data collections.
- University of Michigan Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR)Academic membership-based organization (UIUC is a member) that maintains an archive of social science statistical data. ICPSR provides data files for use with statistical software.
- Polling the NationsOver 14,000 opinion polls, conducted by U.S. and foreign organizations. Surveys and results can be exported to email, downloaded, or printed from the website.
