Krannert Center Events: February 2018: Joshua Bell, Violin

Joshua Bell, Violin

Sam Haywood, piano

Joshua Bell’s restless curiosity, passion, multi-faceted musical interests, and exquisite talent have earned him the rare title of “classical music superstar.” One of the most celebrated violinists of our time, Bell has recorded more than 40 CDs and is a recipient of the elite Avery Fisher Prize, accorded to only a select few instrumentalists who have demonstrated outstanding achievement and excellence in music. Ironically, one event that helped establish Bell as a household name was his incognito performance in a Washington, DC subway station in 2007, as part of a Washington Post story examining art and context. The resulting Pulitzer Prize-winning story sparked international discussion which continues to this day and inspired the children’s book The Man with the Violin. His temporary anonymity during that experiment is the exception, however, for as The Strad wrote, “Joshua Bell will be the one remembered in 50 years’ time.”
