Scholarly Commons Scanners: Epson 10000XL

This guide provides instructions for using the scanners in the Scholarly Commons (Main Library 306)

Epson 10000XL

Basic Scanning

Placing Your Document

  • Raise the scanner cover and place your document face down in the upper-left corner of the document table.
  • Close the document cover, taking care not to move the document.

Using EPSON Scan

The EPSON Scan software is used to manage your use of the EPSON scanner. It has three scanning modes:

  • Home Mode: Used for quick and easy scanning, provides excellent results for all document types. Can be used for photos, text, and line art when advanced control over image settings is not desired.
  • Office Mode: Good for scanning business documents containing text and graphics, or when scanning documents for OCR (optical character recognition). Scanning film and photos are not recommended in Office Mode.
  • Professional Mode: This allows the user to have the greatest degree of control of image color and quality. You can manually adjust various settings, such as color, tone, brightness, and so on.

Using the Preview Screen

The Preview feature allows you to select the area of an image that you would like to scan. You can do this by drawing a box around a previewed image. Images can be previewed in the Thumbnail preview screen and the Full-size preview screen. The former automatically locates and crops the image placed on the scanner, while the latter shows the full scanned area and allows you to manually select the portion of the image you want to scan.

Selecting the Scanning Area

Manually

Click and drag inside the preview image to draw a marquee around the area you want to scan. The selected area will be surrounded by a dotted line.

Auto-detect

Click the Auto locate button to automatically create a marquee around your image and crop out the document table area.

By Target Size

If you know what size you need your final image to be, you can create a marquee with the correct proportions. On the main screen of EPSON Scan, select Target Size under Destination settings, click the page orientation icon to select landscape or portrait.
