Metadata for your Digitization Project

  • Stephanie Luke, the Metadata Librarian will work with you to determine a metadata options for your collection, with the assistance of a collection Librarian, Archives or a Subject Specialist as needed.
    • This will be the public-facing, descriptive metadata associated with each item in the collection.
    • The scope of this metadata will differ, depending on the repository into which it is ingested.
    • This is the time to describe and contextualize the materials.
  • Metadata creation – Based on the metadata options chosen, you will create metadata that describes each item to be digitized, including:
    • title
    • creator
    • unique identifier (typically the BibID for bound materials, or box, folder, and item identifiers for archival collections)
    • any other information that identifies the item, and places it in context.
  • Here is where you would describe why the materials you want to digitize are important, and what you want the public to know about them.
