RLST 286: Introduction to Hinduism: Citing Your Sources

A guide to library resources for students enrolled in RLST 286: An Introduction to Hinduism.

Managing Your Sources

With citation management tools, you can store and organize citations downloaded directly from the online library catalog and most Library databases.  The International and Area Studies Library recommends either RefWorks or Zotero.  These tools are similar, but each has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Go directly to Ref Works

Free for all University of Illinois students. Is completely web-based, meaning that you can create and get access to your records from any online environment and all of your files are on a remote server. Works with MS Word to generate bibliographies, or automatically insert citations into your paper using the citation style of your choice. To find out more, watch these RefWorks tutorials.

Go directly to Zotero

Free. Works with the Firefox 2.0 web browser. Developed by historians to support historical research. Flexible software allows you to take snapshots of web pages, and to organize your notes along with your sources. Is not web-based, meaning that you can get access to your files only on your own PC, whether or not you are online.   Zotero software and all of the files are located on your hard drive. A special plug-in allows you to insert formatted footnotes and bibliographies into MS Word.
