Open Group Study Rooms

Rooms 405-415 are Open Group Study Rooms located on the west end of the Fourth Floor of the Grainger Engineering Library. These rooms can be reserved on a first come, first serve basis up to 14 days in advance by any faculty, staff or student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, using their @illinois.edu email account.

Open Group Study Room Use Rules

Failure to abide by our room use policies by anyone in your group will result in forfeiture of your current reservation and can result in revocation of room reservation privileges.

  • Rooms are reserved on a first come, first serve basis with a limit of:
    • 2 active reservations
    • 2 reservations per day
    • 2 hours per reservation
  • Arrive within 10 minutes of your reserved start time. Otherwise, your entire reservation will be forfeited.
  • If you know you will not be using a reserved room, please make sure to cancel your reservation using the link in your confirmation email. 
  • These rooms are for group use only. There must be a minimum of 2 persons in these rooms at all times.
  • Room occupancy maximums are:
    • 4 persons for Rooms 405, 407, 408, 409, 410, 411
    • 8 persons for Rooms 412, 413, 414, 415
  • Leaving your room unattended for any period of time will result in your entire reservation being forfeited.
  • Items left unattended will be removed and will be retrievable at the Circulation Desk with your i-Card.
  • There is no food permitted in these rooms.
  • Do not move furniture in or out of these rooms
  • Do not write on or otherwise mark the furniture, equipment or walls. Only use dry erase markers on the white boards. You can check out markers at the Circulation Desk with your i-Card.
  • Formal course instruction is not permitted in these rooms.

What’s in the Room?

Each Open Group Study Room includes a table, chairs and comes equipped with a whiteboard (You can check out markers at the Circulation Desk with your i-Card). Students will have access to the wireless network from these rooms.

CARE Group Study Rooms

Rooms 401-404, located on the west end of the Fourth Floor of the Grainger Engineering Library are rooms that are available by reservation for College of Engineering students only. These rooms are reserved by staff from the Center for Academic Resources in Engineering (CARE). Requests for a CARE Group Study Room must be made a minimum of 48 hours (Monday-Friday) in advance. Conference Rooms

Conference Rooms range from small to large and can be found on the second and third floors of the Grainger Engineering Library. These rooms are primarily used for formal meetings, workshops and seminars and can only be requested by groups affiliated with the College of Engineering, CITES and the University Library. No food is allowed unless authorized in advance. Requests for a Conference room must be made a minimum of 48 hours (Monday-Friday) in advance.
