How to Use Yomidasu Rekishikan: 明治・大正・昭和

User guide for Yomidasu Rekishikan

Meiji Taisho Showa

The Meiji Taisho Showa (明治・大正・昭和) database contains images of articles from the Yomiuri Shimbun Tokyo edition from 1874 (Meiji 7) to 1989 (Showa 64). Images include advertisements on the paper as well. The database is searchable by modern Japanese. A red pin sign indicates the searched article on the screen to help you locate articles with no headlines.

The default is set to keyword search (キーワード検索), but you can switch to full text search (全文検索) as well. (Please note, however, full text search in this database only searches article headlines). You can also limit your search by a date range (検索期間), by editions (発行形態), and by news categories (分類). Specific to this database, you can specify whether to include advertisements in your search (広告検索), and whether or not to search only for articles with photographs (写真有無) by checking appropriate boxes.

How to Use

The following instructions use screen captures from an older Yomidasu interface, but the search interface and result screens stay the same. (Now you have an option to search in English. Switch to the English search screen by clicking the "Search in English" button on the upper left corner).
