ID Numbers and Passwords

To access the University of Illinois Library's resources, you will need two different identification numbers and passwords:

Setting up your library account to check out books:

You need your Library account number, which is located on your i-card and begins with 20111-. 

To obtain an i-card, fill out the photoless I-Card request form on the Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning website, or contact them by phone at 217-333-3061 or toll-free at 800-252-1360 x33061.

Accessing electronic journals:

You need your NetID and password.  Every student, faculty, and staff member at the University of Illinois has a NetID. Your NetID is the ID you use for your official @illinois.edu email address.  It is also the ID for your Enterprise Account, and other University Account information. Using DocExpress to request copies of articles unavailable electronically:

You need your NetID and password.

Requesting articles through Interlibrary Loan with your ILLiad Account:

You need your NetID and password.

Using Your University of Illinois Email Address

Your @illinois email address is an important way the University of Illinois communicates with you.

To use your university email:

  1. Enter your NetID in the "user" field, and your password in the "password."  For more information about your NetID, visit the Managing Your Accounts and Passwords website.
  2. Log in.

Forwarding your University of Illinois email to another email address.

If you want all of your email from this University of Illinois account to go to another email address that you already use, you can automatically forward the email.  Following these instructions from Technology Services.
